I’m not watching the Olympics either because I decided they are nothing but a Corporate America showcase. The ONLY reason they are being held in China seems to be so American corporations can market themselves to 5 BILLION potential new customers who suddenly have disposable income…something most Americans no longer find themselves with. (I think it’s Pepsi that has the ad,”Go Red! Go Pepsi!”…I guess Communism is fine if there is money to be made!) Like everything else, it’s all about MONEY and Corporate America will follow that money to the ends of the earth. If Cuba were an emerging, wealthy nation, we’d be dealing with them now too. </p> <p>Regarding only Westerners being seen protesting…my partner used to travel extensively in China before he got laid off a couple years ago. He said that the Chinese are as manipulated by their govt. as we are by ours…that they believe the rest of the world likes them a great deal and that American business is coming to China in order to help them! They are kept in the dark as far as human rights abuses and see no reason to protest. If anything, their lives have greatly improved at the expense of our own and for that, they are quite happy.</p> Interesting showgrum.
